This award is well-earned as I have been working with the team for only a few months now and can see how much effort they bring. Since opening its doors in 2023, Rose City Reads has quietly built a loyal following and now, thanks to your votes, the secret’s out.
Ranked #4 on the list, the store was praised by readers as a “hidden gem” with “unbeatable” prices, where kids can refresh their shelves without breaking the bank and adults can score recent releases for just a few dollars. Even better? Every purchase supports our beloved public library system.
As someone who’s had the pleasure of collaborating with the Friends team, I can’t overstate how special this space is. Director Jackie Starr and the volunteers have created a bookstore that feels like a warm welcome. Whether you’re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, there’s a spirit of curiosity and generosity that fills the air (along with that perfect used-book smell).
