Obojima is Officially Live on Kickstarter!

Today marks the official launch of Obojima: Tales From The Tall Grass! The team at 1985 Games, including myself, has worked hard to bring this campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons 5E to life, adding a whimsical twist to the World’s Greatest RPG.

What is Dungeons & Dragons, and Would I Even Like It?

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is celebrated as the World’s Greatest Role-Playing Game for good reason. With fun, turn-based gameplay and endless opportunities to create and embody unique characters, it’s a playground for the imagination.

Take Critical Role, one of the most popular D&D shows, as an example. Across three seasons, a talented cast of voice actors has explored new characters and adventures in each campaign. Laura Bailey’s journey between the pragmatic Vex’ahlia, the excitable Jester, and the soft-spoken Imogen demonstrates the range of personalities you can bring to life. Meanwhile, Sam Riegel’s colorful cast—from the silver-tongued bard Scanlan to the kleptomaniacal goblin Nott the Brave, and the kindhearted automaton Fresh Cut Grass—showcases the transformative power of role-playing.

If you’re hesitant about stepping into the spotlight, D&D can feel a little intimidating at first. But with a close group of friends, it becomes a fun and inviting space to unleash your creativity. Roleplay fools together and you might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it!

What Does “Campaign Setting” Mean?

If you’re more familiar with my work in publishing, you might not be as acquainted with tabletop role-playing games (though the two industries share a surprising amount of overlap). That’s where the term campaign setting might trip you up.

In D&D, a campaign setting provides the backdrop for your story: characters, setting, time period, conflict, and themes. Think of it as the world-building foundation that fuels your party’s adventure. It’s where the magic—and mischief—happens.

How are You, Shelby Ann, Involved?

As Marketing and Operations Manager at 1985 Games, I’ve had the privilege of being a major voice in the creation and promotion of Obojima. You’ll see me frequently on the Kickstarter page providing updates and engaging with our backers.

Beyond Kickstarter, I’m working to make our blog, Two Floppy Discs, a hub of exciting insights from the creative team, including our visionary Creative Director, Jeremiah Crofton. I’m thrilled to serve as a bridge between the creative process and the fans who make it all worthwhile.
